Happy Thanksgiving to you! How wonderful to have your family with you today.
I have a new rescued lovely quarterhorse, when I stepped next to him he shyly raised his foot to have it picked, I didn’t even ask for it, how blessed I felt at the trust he gave me.
Life is good, elayne
Many Blessings to you, Kathleen and your entire horse family. It’s been quite a year, hasn’t it?
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family Joe!
We had a wonderful meal. Turkey, dressing,(two kinds, sausage-bread and cornbread) and all the trimmings. Most of my immediate family are here and a couple of dear neighbors. We had just finished our fantastic collaborative feast when the dreaded call came in. My big sister just lost her long battle with ovarian cancer. She had been in the hospital for two weeks and we knew the call would come an minute. Her husband and her daughter were at her side as she passed quietly into the next world.
My brother, father and nieces and nephews rallied and cried. We mourned her death while my neighbors hand washed all the china and silver. It was a blessing to have everyone that could be here, together. And really so nice to not have to face that mess when we came up for air.
After another glass of wine, it was time to feed my two horses, Boo and KoKo. Paint mares. They were “off” somehow. Boo came straight to me and put her head on my shoulder. KoKo was acting colicky. She wasn’t interested in her food which never happens and she was kicking at her belly and turning her head toward her belly. So I got her lead rope and we walked, and walked until something happened. Think you know what I mean. Then she eat all her grain and dove into her hay as if nothing ever happened. I went back out later, after dark with a lantern and my sister in tow to check on them and again, they both came up to me, not like I had food but in such a gentle sweet way I can’t began to describe. I was so comforting.
My sister battled stage 3 ovarian cancer for over 7 years. She worked right up until she went into the hospital for the last time. She is our Christmas miracle. I put up a tree in her honor. It’s silver with teal ornaments. Teal is the color for ovarian cancer awareness. It has a little angle on the top. I light it everyday and say a prayer for her. It’s called the Lindy tree. Her name is Linda Hagman. She loved the idea of the Lindy tree and told all her friends and co-workers. Think of the Lindy tree and say a little prayer for her.
Thanks for listening. I needed it.

I am so sorry to hear of your sister’s passing.
But how fortunate she & all of your family are to
have each other.
My mother’s sister had ovarian cancer before I was
born – there was no cure then – hopefully there will
be soon.
I’ll say a prayer for her – and one for a cure.

Joe,
Glad you had a happy Thanksgiving
We did too – a little colder today than 40
But then this is NYS!

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your whole family. We had a great one with ours as well.
Hello, Joe and Kathleen, Sorry I haven’t been in touch but enjoyed all the pictures. This last went to my computer as a treasure! These reunitings will make the time pass quicker until it is all finalized. To digress a little: Humane Society sent me a newsletter about grossly cruel puppy mills, one of them being in Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee (Dickson County). I’m sure Benji would be happy to know 50 dogs and other animals were rescued from outrageous conditions. HSLF is the web site.Thought you might want to know location. Love to you and all the four-legged family as well.
I just found your blog and am thrilled! I’m in the process of building a new home and barn on 35 acres of land in the foothills near Golden, CO and am fascinated by your journey. My horse (and I) currently live in MN, so I know we will have many adventures next year when we move (like strange weeds and thorns!). I am thankful that you are sharing your experiences!!
Many thanks Kristen. Please, please, please read The Soul of a Horse before you build the barn :)
Will do!! We are just now starting the plans!! :)
