Here are some of our favorite photos, some from Blog posts, some not. Virtually all of them Kathleen’s. But then the differences between hers and mine are easily recognized :). These flow, more or less, in reverse chronological order, latest first. Enjoy.
Stormy is ten and a half weeks old. Growing so fast!
Firestorm (Stormy). 10 weeks old. A mustang conceived in the
wild on (or about) my birthday. She was in my lap barely
an hour after she was born. Most of the recent Blog
posts are about her and her mom Saffron.
Stormy. Her 2nd time out of her paddock
Mouse – 6 year old American Saddlebred rescue from the
Animal Rescue League of Iowa via Monty Roberts.
Mouse and Skeeter, 25 year old Quarter Horse.
Kathleen’s “sofa”
Saffron and Stormy – first time in the pasture after
Stormy’s birth. She’s six weeks old.
Which drew lots of attention. L to R: Mouse, Cash, Pocket
Miss Saffron, our new mustang, who came to us pregnant, had never willingly touched or been touched by any human before coming to us one month before this photo and the next few were taken. During our no-agenda time on the evening of my birthday she decided (her choice!) to give me a surprise birthday gift. One of the more special I’ve ever received. From untouchable to trusting in a single instant! Just amazing.
First halter and lead rope at 3 weeks
3 weeks after Saffron’s arrival this is the only touch she will allow,
other than one she initiates, or eating from my hand.
Noelle, our first mustang, watches Saffron and Firestorm
I love this shot. Wish it hadn’t been after dark.
Less than an hour after Firestorm was born.

Our second January in middle Tennessee
Our second December in middle Tennessee.
The submersible pump we placed in the pond made
kept a section from ever freezing; made this
winter much better than the first one.
Our horses’ 2-year anniversary
out 24/7 in “Founder Valley”
Sorry. I just love this. It looks like Cash is doing a ballet
step while displaying his gorgeous bare feet
This one too! Makes me smile. A great shot by Kathleen
not only showing off Cash’s bare foot but utilizing the
shadow to show that he’s doing it all himself.
I also love this photo up against the one below beautifully
illustrating our horses’ lifestyle change from California
to Tennessee. We used them to headline the Blog Post:
High Desert Horses on Middle Tennessee Grasses.
One of my favorites of Kathleen’s photos.
Noelle and Malachi
Another favorite because it headlines the article Reading the Eyes of a Horse
and Mouse’s expression nails everything I write about in the post.
My favorite cover boy Mr. Cash
Note that even though he’s conversing with me his eye is on
Kathleen to make sure she’s getting his best side :)
The day Noelle joined the herd. She and Mariah duke it out.
The story of our journey with horses (to date) is told in the two books that follow: the national best seller The Soul of a Horse – Life Lessons from the Herd and its sequel Born Wild – The Soul of a Horse.
And what a story it is as two novices without a clue stumble and bumble their way through the learning process so that hopefully you won’t have to. If you haven’t read both of these books already please do because with that reading, I believe, will come not just the knowledge of discovery but the passion and the excitement to cause you to commit to your journey with horses, to do for the horse without waiver so that your relationship and experience will be with loving, happy and healthy horses who are willing partners and who never stop trying for you. Horses like ours.
